UDC Track & Field Team Performs Well in NCAA Championships Finals, Returns With Seven All Americans

San Angelo, TX:May 23, 2009—The University of the District of Columbia Outdoor Track & Field Team performed well in the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in San Angelo, Texas, today. Although none of the component teams or individual runners won their particular event, they gave it their best and in representing the University. UDC had seven All American performances, including senior sprinter Maurisa Williams' becoming a three- time All American, while senior sprinter Cottrell Martin and sophomore sprinter Saleena Green picked up their second in outdoor track & field.

Jennifer Ziarko Named UDC Associate Athletics Director

Washington, DC—University of the District of Columbia Athletics Director Patricia A. Thomas has announced the appointment of Jennifer Ziarko as associate director of athletics for academic support and senior woman administrator. Ms. Ziarko comes to the University from Georgetown University, where she served as academic coordinator for student athletes. In making the announcement Ms. Thomas stated, “Jennifer brings solid experience to her new position which strengthens our mission to provide opportunities for student-athletes to grow and excel academically, athletically and socially. I am pleased to have Jennifer on board.”

UDC Women's Basketball Wins Two Major Awards

BILLINGS, Mont.:May 26, 2009 – The University of District of Columbia had four players named to the 2008-09 All-ICAA Women’s Basketball team. Lillian McGill (Univ. of D.C.) and Amanda Milner (North Greenville) earned first team honors for the second time. The ICAA in basketball consists of Central State, Columbia Union, D.C., Flagler, Lake Erie College, North Greenville, Oakland City, Palm Beach Atlantic and Urbanna. The team was selected by ICAA Director Mike Bond.

Turkmenistan Basketball Sports Group Visits UDC

Washington, DC--The University of the District of Columbia was recently selected by the U.S. Department of State to host a Turkmenistan Basketball Visitor’s Group as a part of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Sports Diplomacy Program. .

Track & Field Team Helps With Special Olympics

The University of the District of Columbia Women’s Track & Field Team spent three days with the Special Olympics Regional Qualifying at Catholic University last week, May 4-7. The athletes were used as officials, motivators, and organizers. Some student athletes were used as official starters along with Head Coach Marc J. Harrison.
