| WHY WON'T UDC START A FOOTBALL TEAM |
We cannot afford it. |

| I would like for us to put into our 2007-8 schedule atleat 2 or 3 MEAC schools. I think that this would 1-give us exposure and 2-give the high level of competition that the coaches would like for the team to learn form and 3-give our student players a chance to understad that a lower conference can still be a power house over the higher tear groups. 4- The shools that I recommend will be willing to play to get an easy win..even though it wouldn't be that easy at all. lol
The schools I recommend are: North Carolina A&T State university (a building program-alot of dc natives-recruitment back home), Howard Univeristy ( build an inner city rivalvry-money potentialfor the school to build on), Bowie( another rivalry -set by UDC being the only school to beat them when they were undedeated I think- they won the national championship that year), local makes it also money easy on the program, Norfolk State University ( has a history with the University marching band-creates a great atmosphere of competition with area family in both schools). |
MEAC schools are looking to play large Div I schools in order to make money. So they would not be interested in playing non- Div I schools like UDC. |

| Do you know if by the summer you would have any internships available? |
It's a possibility. You must let me know what areas of athletics that you are interested. |

| Can non-students utilize the athletic facilities? I was told I could use the weight training facilities (working next to your campus) but didn't want to just waltz in if it's not allowed. |
It's ok as long as you have some ID and it is during the hours of operation. |

| I am an alumnus and would like to know if there is a plan in place to bring back the Marching band and the football team. I have been in constant communications with alumnis that are wanting and willing to help and donate moneys for this to happen. I believe that you would enjoy the benefits of a pep band for the school to begin buidling the marching band back. I haveing also marched in the band at UDC would volunteer, also with other alumnus to have that support for the teams and build there spirits. Trust it really works and is a great factor in sports and school spirit. |
Frederico, it was nice talking to you recently. There has been some discussion about bringing back the band. We will keep you posted. |

| Hello Sir,
I am an alum of '85 and played as a tight end on the football team. Since graduation from UDC, I have developed a passion to work with young people athletically. I have coached and served in many capacities involving athletics over the years. I have served as an assistant to Coach Wil Jones (Men's basketball) and as a manager with Coach Bessie Stockard (Women's basketball) Currently, I serve as Athletic Director at Samuel Ogle Middle School in Bowie, Md. and would like to assist my alma mater in athletics if possible. If there is a space available that I may be of use, please contact me @ gregory.bacon@pgcps.org.
Go Firebirds! |
Please give my assistant, Ms. China Jude a call and tell her what you would like to do. Her cell # is 202-4973127 |
