Michael S. Riley was recently appointed associate director of athletics for internal operations at the University of the District of Columbia.

Riley comes to the University from the West Financial Group where he was responsible for assisting families and businesses with strategic financial planning. Prior to that, he was the assistant coach of the Georgetown University Men’s Basketball Team for over twenty years, helping them win the Big East Conference Championship and the NCAA Division I National Basketball Championship in 1984.

His background also includes a stint as a teacher, and as assistant to the headmaster and junior varsity basketball coach at Washington’s Gonzaga College High School. He also formerly served as athletics director for the St. Augustine Catholic Parish and had three years of military service as a member of the United States Navy.

As a member of the Georgetown University basketball coaching staff, he assisted Head Coach John Thompson in coaching the 1988 United States Olympic Men’s Basketball Team, which received a Bronze Medal at the event.

Riley is a native Washingtonian and graduate of Cardozo High School. He is also a  graduate of Georgetown University, from which he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.
