Soccer and Volleyball Teams Tune-up for Season Openers
Washington, DC: August 26, 2010 – The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball Teams honed their skills in pre-season action this week. Both teams are looking to have successful seasons and these scrimmages were important parts of the effort. The Men's Soccer Team tuned-up at Howard University, while the Women's Volleyball Team took on Northern Virginia Commmunity College in the UDC Sports Complex.
Head Men’s Soccer Coach Khary Stockton said of his young, untested, team’s performance, “I was happy with the performance of the new student-athletes and everything went well.” Sheila Weaver, head coach of the women’s volleyball team was also pleased with her team’s performance, stating, “I thought the women played very well. The team has a lot of versatility that will allow us to make adjustments as the season progresses.”
The women’s volleyball team will open their regular season on Thursday, September 2, at home against the Virginia Union Panthers. The men’s soccer team opens the regular season on Saturday, September 4, against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnston, in Johnston, PA.
