University of the District of Columbia Men’s Basketball Team Defeats Fairmont State University on the Road 74-68

Fairmont, WV – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Basketball Team defeated Fairmont State University tonight 74-68 on the road in the Joe Retton Arena.  With the win, the Firebirds advance to 8-1 on the year while the Fighting Falcons drop to 2-5. 

To start out the game, the Firebirds jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead.  Fairmont then went on a 11-4 run, tying the game at 11.  The contest remained tight for the rest of the half, and Fairmont held a 30-28 advantage going into the locker room at halftime.  The Firebirds then went on an 11-0 run to open up the second half, taking a 39-30 lead.  That 11 point run proved to be the boost the Firebirds needed to gain control of the game.  While the game remained close for most of the second half, the Firebirds we able to maintain an advantage for the rest of the game and never trailed after the 30-28 halftime margin.  Fairmont pulled within three points on three occasions in the second half, but they were never able to even the score.  UDC finally finished off Fairmont by a score of 74-68.

The Firebirds were paced by three seniors on the night.  Senior guard Dishawn Bradshaw (Baltimore, MD - St. Frances Academy) paced all scorers with 25 points on 10-15 shooting.  Senior guard Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, MD – McDonogh School) poured in 21 points, and senior guard Nigel Munson (Washington, DC - DeMatha HS) chipped in 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

UDC Head Coach Jeff Ruland had this to say about tonight's win, "It's always good to win on the road.  The game was a bit ugly at times, but we played solid defense and got it done.  We are looking forward to our first ECC road game this weekend."

The Firebirds return to action on Saturday as they travel to East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas at 3:00 pm.
