University of the District of Columbia Men’s Basketball Earns No. 22 Ranking in Latest NABC Poll

The Firebirds cracked the NABC/Division II national poll for the first time this season with a No. 22 ranking.

WASHINGTON, DC  –  The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team has earned a No. 22 ranking in the latest NABC Division II national poll released on January 10.

The Firebirds, led by third-year head coach Jeff Ruland, are 12-1 overall and 3-0 in the East Coast Conference heading into a league game at home against NYIT on Wednesday, January 11 at 7:30 p.m. District of Columbia's only loss this season came to Division I Duquesne on November 18, and since that time, the Firebirds have rattled off an East Region-best 10 straight wins.

"Cracking the top-25 is a milestone for our program," Ruland said. "I'm very proud of our kids, and we look forward to continuing to represent UDC in the second-half of the season. Our asssistant coaches and our student-athletes have been working tirelessly this season. Hopefully this is just the beginning."

UDC features the 33rd and 36th ranked scorers in the nation in its dynamic backcourt duo of senior guards Nigel Munson and Brandon Herbert. Munson is also 8th in Division II in assists per-game. These two prolific players have helped the Firebirds already surpass last year's win total of 11 halfway through the season.

The No. 22 ranked Firebirds will look to extend their 12-game home winning streak at the UDC Gym tomorrow as they host league foe NYIT. Tip-off is at 7:30, and there will be a live video feed with play-by-play by Eli Pearlstein via courtesy of Stretch Internet.
