UDC Men’s Tennis Player Tomas Gajdusek Named 2010-2011 East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year
Central Islip, NY - The East Coast Conference (ECC) has announced that University of the District of Columbia Men’s Tennis player Tomas Gajdusek (Finance- Prague, Czech Republic) has been named 2010-2011 ECC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Gajdusek, who is ranked ninth in the East Region with a 16-5 record in singles play and seventh in doubles action (with Bruno Reich), boasts a 3.89 cumulative grade point average as a junior Finance major.

UDC Men's Tennis Honored by the ECC; Mahaffey Named Coach of the Year, Uzcatequi is Rookie of the Year
April 22, 2011: Washington,DC: The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis program reached a significant level of success yesterday when Coach Dickie Mahaffey was named the East Coast Conference Coach of the Year and Freshman, Miguel Uzcatequi (Electrical Engineering Major-Valencia,Venezuela) won the league's Rookie of the Year Award. The 13 and 5 season (4-2 in the ECC) was an eleven win turnaround for UDC from 2009-10. Mahaffey and Uzcatequi were not the only Firebirds honored as the year came to a close.

Firebird Men's Tennis loses in ECC Championships; 13-5 record is 11 Win Turnaround
April 21,2011: Old Westbury,NY- The East Coast Conference Championship went to #2 regionally ranked Queens College as they defeated the University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis squad, 5-1, on the courts of NYIT in Old Westbury,NY. This officially ends the UDC season with a No.4 regional ranking, a record of 13 - 5 overall and 4 - 2 mark in the ECC for 2010-11. The Firebirds were ranked #4 in the East Region of Division II Tennis going into the match.

Highly Ranked Division II East Region Tennis Teams Will Collide; UDC Defeats Dowling in ECC Tournament
April 20, 2011: Queens Village, NY- The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Team defeated Dowling College, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the East Coast Conference Championships today at the Alley Pond Tennis Center in Queens Village, NY. This will set up a match of the #2 team in the East Region, Queens College, and the #4 ranked squad, the UDC Firebirds. This match will take place at the Tennis Center on Thursday morning at 10:30am.

Firebirds Head to NY and East Coast Conference Championships as Reich Garners "Rookie of the Week" Again
April 19,2011: Washington,DC: The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis squad is on its way to the Alley Pond Tennis Center in Queens Village, NY for the ECC Championships, April 20 and 21. The semi-final round will start Wednesday morning at 10:30am. If successful, the Firebirds will play in the final the next day also at 10:30am. Before they left for New York, the team got good news.

Old Westbury,NY-April 15, 2011: UDC Men's Tennis continued its dominant Spring by defeating New York Insititue of Technology, 9-0, in a East Coast Conference road match Friday. The Firebirds are now 12-3 for the season and 3-0 in the ECC.

Washington, DC: April 6, 2011- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team defeated the Shepherd University Rams, 6-3, in an exciting match this afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts in Washington, DC. The Firebirds improved to 9-3 overall for the season with this win.

Baltimore, MD: April 3, 2010—Junior Kristyna Nepivodova (Economics-Breznice, Czech Republic) and freshman Sofia Leon (Psychology- Quito, Ecuador) led the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Tennis Team to a, 7-0, sweep of the Coppin State University Eagles on Sunday at the Coppin State Tennis Courts in Baltimore, Maryland. They were undefeated in all of their matches.

Men’s Tennis Player Miguel Uzcategui Named ECC Rookie of the Week
Central Islip, NY: March 21, 2011—UDC freshman tennis player Miguel Uzcategui (Engineering-Valencia, Venezuela) was named the men’s tennis “Rookie of the Week” by the East Coast Conference (ECC). Uzcategui was a perfect 3-0 in both singles and doubles action this week in UDC’s action against Mount Saint Mary’s, Philadelphia, and Chestnut Hill. In his match against Philadelphia’s Manoli Sgourgos, Uzcategui came back from losing the first set to win the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Central Islip, NY: March 7, 2011- Two members of the UDC Firebirds Tennis Team claimed top East Coast Conference (ECC) Men’s Tennis Weekly honors for the week of March 7, 2011. Freshman Miquel Uzcategui (Engineering-Valencia, Venezuela) was named the ECC “Player of the Week” and teammate Carlos Quiroga, also a freshmen Engineering major from Valencia, Venezuela was named the “Rookie of the Week”.

UDC Men's Tennis Sweeps Post University 9-0
Washington, DC: March 5, 2011-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team swept the Post University Eagles, 9-0, today at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center in Washington,, DC. It was the second win of the spring for the Firebirds and their 4th overall for the year, giving them a 4-1 record.

UDC Men’s Tennis Player Bruno Reich Named ECC “Rookie of the Week”
University of the District of Columbia Men’s Tennis player, junior Bruno Reich (Business Management- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), was undefeated in match competition last Saturday; first beating West Chester's Matt Thomas 6-1, 6-0 in singles play, then with Gajdusek defeated Nate Geigle and Connor Dunn 8-1 in doubles action. As a result of his performance against West Chester, Reich was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) “Rookie of the Week”.

They defeated Bjorn Blythe and Scott Van Eck, 8-1.

Washington, DC: October 5, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team was defeated ,6-1, by the Howard University Bison today at the Howard Tennis Courts in Washington, DC. Sophomore Tomas Gajdusek (Finance- Prague, Czech Republic) won his singles competition over Omar Haloui, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8, and was the only UDC player to win a match.

Washington, DC: September 22, 2010Freshman Carlos Quiroga (Electrical Engineering-Valencia, Venezuela) played the decisive role in the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Mens Tennis defeat of the Catholic University Cardinals, today, at the Catholic University Tennis Courts in Washington, DC. Quirogas thrilling, come from behind, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, defeat of Cassian Utrie clinched the victory and gave the Firebirds a, 5-4, win over the Cardinals, with just enough sunlight to complete the match.

UDC's Miquel Uzcategui Wins USTA/ ITA Mens Tennis B Singles Championship
Philadelphia, Pa: September 20, 2010In an exciting weekend of play, Miquel Uzcategui (Electrical Engineering major- Valencia, Venezuela/Colegio Sagrado Corazon), a freshman mens tennis player for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds won the USTA/ITA East Regional Tennis B Singles Championship today, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Chestnut Hill College. Uzcategui defeated Temur Nanikashvilli from Queens College, 8-4, in the championship match.
