University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Ranked 3rd in NCAA East Region Poll

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team is ranked 3rd in the first NCAA East Region poll of the season released on March 28th, 2012.

The Firebirds have an overall record of 9-2, which includes five shutout victories and only one loss in Division II. That one Division II loss came to the No. 1 team in the region and four-time reigning NCAA semifinalist, Concordia College.

District of Columbia is 53-13 in singles play and 26-7 in doubles play as a team this season. Freshman Simon Andersson leads the Firebirds with 10 singles wins at the No. 5 spot this season and he has teamed with Aleksandar Grabovac for a team-best nine wins at No. 1 doubles.

Head coach Dickie Mahaffey and his Firebirds squad still have three remaining ranked opponents on their schedule, beginning with No. 7 Chesnut Hill College, who UDC visits tomorrow, March 30th at 1:00 p.m. Staying in Philadelphia, the Firebirds will then take on No. 9 USciences on Sunday, April 1st at 11:00 a.m. Finally, they come back home to host the No. 2 team in the region, East Coast Conference foe, Queens College, on April 6th at 3:00 p.m.
