UDC Stumbles, Loses to Edinboro 72-63


Washington, DC: January 21, 2008—After getting off to a slow start the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds and the Edinboro University Lady Fighting Scotts finally got down to the business at hand; scoring points to determine the winner of tonight’s basketball contest. Once the teams were able to find their range they battled to four ties, in the first half, going into the break with the score knotted at 29.

The second half saw the teams play a more up beat game, increasing their shot completion percentages and going after the ball more aggressively. Edinboro’s Samantha Reimer led all scorers with 29 points, while teammate Kelsey Conklin added 18, and Rachel Johnson added 10 points.

Edinboro won the game on 46 % field goal shooting (21 for 46), 41% 3-point shooting (7 for 17), and 89% free throw shooting (23 for 26).

Lillian McGill, a freshman forward, (Sumter, S.C.), led UDC in scoring, posting 25 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Junior guard Devaughn Hailey (Camden, NJ) added 13 points and 4 assists as they went down in defeat.

UDC dropped to 11-5 for the season. They will return to action January 26, against Saint Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina.
