Washington, DC-- The UDC Lady Firebird Women’s Basketball team and coaches volunteered with the Food & Friends community organization in preparation for Thanksgiving this year. Since 1988, Food & Friends, an organization based in the District of Columbia, has been providing counseling, packages, meals, and groceries to residents around the Washington metro area living with HIV/AIDS and other illnesses. These services offer relief for those infected and their families, making a nutritional, balanced lifestyle available, giving them peace of mind.
After 6:00am preparation for the match-up against Alderson Broaddus College, the Firebird family spent time at Food and Friends prepping food, as well as packing Thanksgiving baskets for clients of Food and Friends. The baskets included a turkey, corn bread, stuffing, string beans, apple pie, etc. This is the second year that the Lady Firebirds spent time volunteering at Food and Friends.
This is one of many ways the Lady Firebirds
are showing that it is not only what you do on the basketball
court, but rather what you do off the court that really counts to
make our community a better place.
