UDC Falls to Glenville State, 79-71

 Washington, DC: December  8, 2009-- Senior guard Donita Adams scored 22 points, collected  6 rebounds and made 3 steals to pace the Glenville State College Pioneers  to a,  79-71, win over the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds in women's basketball tonight at the Sports Complex.  Glenville came back from being down by 3 at the break to pull off the 8-point v ictory. 

Three Glenville players were in double figures, including Adams. Junior center Kristen Golden scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, and junior guard Autumn Davis added 15 points and 2 rebounds to the winning effort.

The Firebirds went into the break leading, 43-40, after 4 ties and 9 lead changes in the half.  Glenville made a 10-2 run just before the half ended to bring their score to 40.  The Pioneers substituted frequently , sending fresh legs in against the Firebirds.

 UDC made a 10-0 run with 16:58 remaining  in regulation to bring the score to 57-47 before Glenville knotted the score at 59 with 9:49 remaining.  After a brief exchange Glenville made a 13-0 run at the 5:37 mark to take the lead for good.

 Glenville shot only 35 percent ( 29 for 82) from the field for the game to UDC's 50 percent ( 30 for 60). The key to the Pioneers win were turnovers as the Firebirds had 21 to their 12. Glenville capitalized by scoring 28 points off turnovers to UDC's 14.  Glenville also took advantage of 2nd chance opportunities scoring 29 points to UDC's 12.  

 Glenville shot 85 percent from the charity stripe  converting 11 of 13 attempts into points, while UDC made 64 percent ( 7 for 11).

 Junior center Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) tallied her 6th double double of the season, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also dished out 6 assists.

 Senior guard Nicole Cooper (Fort Washington, MD) also scored in double figures pumping in 21 points while connecting on 4 of 8 three-pointers.  Sophomore guard  Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA) added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist.

 UDC (3-6) will take to the courts again on Saturday, December 12, at 2 p.m.,  at home against Tusculum College.
