UDC Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Robin Williams to Play for the Jamaican Women’s National Basketball Team
Washington, DC - University of the District of Columbia Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Robin Williams was chosen to play for the Jamaican Women’s National Basketball team this summer. Williams is in her second season as an assistant at UDC, and is a native of Bronx, NY. Williams is a first generation American of Jamaican decent.

COACH BUTLER ANALYZES UDC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON
The UDC Women’s basketball season ended with a 2 and 1 record in the National Independent Classic (hosted by UDC in the Sports Complex – February 25-26-27), a 19 and 9 slate overall, and 78 wins in the last 4 seasons. Overall, good work and a successful 2010-11 campaign. But the Firebird women have their sights set on getting back to the NCAA tournament. Coach Jay Butler recently weighed in on this past season.

Firebirds end season with 84-60 win over Urbana
Washington, DC: February 27, 2011 – The UDC women’s basketball team (19-9) celebrated “senior day” with an 84-60 trumping of the Urbana University Blue Knights (11-17) today at the UDC sports complex. The game was part of the 2011 Independent Invitational Women’s Basketball Classic, and third place in the tournament was on the line. As a result, the Firebirds made sure to bring their “A” game defensively, which they used to jump out to a 14-point lead in the first six minutes of the game.

UDC Set to Host the 2011 Independent Invitational Women’s Basketball Classic
Washington, DC: February 18, 2011--The University of the District of Columbia will host the UDC 2011 Independent Schools Invitational Women’s Basketball Classic, February 25, 26 and 27. Six independent schools will participate in the three day Classic, including Central State University (OH), King College (TN), Palm Beach Atlantic University (FL), Urbana University (OH), Washington Adventist University (MD) and the University of the District of Columbia.

UDC falls in first game of 2011 Independent Tournament
Washington, DC: February 25, 2011 - The UDC women’s basketball team (17-9) couldn’t complete their second-half comeback, as they fell to the King College Tornadoes (10-15), 72-69 tonight at the UDC sports complex. The two teams were meeting for the third time this season as part of the 2011 Independent Invitational Women’s Basketball Classic, hosted by UDC. The Firebirds had won the two previous meetings this season by a combined 17 points, and were seeded #1 entering the tournament

Firebirds Send the Marauders Down to an 85-43 Defeat to Sweep Season Series
Wilberforce, Ohio: February 19, 2011-- It didn't take the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team long to dispense with the Central State University Marauders today at Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium in Wilberforce, Ohio. Junior guard Kendra Johnson (Mass Media- Mt. Laurel, NJ) led the Firebirds to an 85-43 triumph over Marauders by scoring 16 points, pulling down 3 boards, dishing out 2 assists and making 4 steals.

UDC Falls to Bowie State, 68-55
Bowie, MD: February 16, 2011-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team fell to the Bowie State University Bulldogs, 68-55, tonight in the A,C, Jordan Arena in Bowie, Maryland. The Firebirds had a poor shooting night, making only 28 percent (22-79) of their field goals.

Firebirds Breeze through Fighting Tigers, 98-48
Salem, WVA: February 12, 2011—Junior guard Jamilia Bonner (Accounting- Mobile, Al) paced the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team to a lopsided, 98-48, win over the Salem International University Fighting Tigers today in Salem, West Virginia. Bonner scored a season-high 24 points, 11 of which came in the first half, while leading four players in double figures for the game. UDC improved to 15-7 with this win while Salem fell to 0-20.

The Washington Adventist University Shock Women's Basketball Team(0-17) comes to town Tuesday, February 8, to play the UDC Firebirds Women's Basketball Team (13-7). The teams have not played each other since the 2009-10 season, when the Firebirds swept the two game series.

Firebirds cruise past Shock 97-39
Washington, DC: February 8, 2011 – The UDC women’s basketball team (14-7) erupted for its largest scoring output of the season in a 97-39 victory over the Washington Adventist University Shock (0-18) tonight at the UDC sports complex.Led by a balanced scoring attack that included six players scoring in double-figures, the Firebirds raced to a 31-point halftime lead. Their first half lead became insurmountable when, after trailing 1-0 to start the period, UDC scored 26 unanswered points to essentially put the game away.

Bristol, TN: February 3, 2011-- Graduate student guard Niqyk Hughes (Public Administration-Fort Worth, TX) led the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team to a 70-57 win over the King College Tornadoes, tonight, in Bristol, Tennessee. It was the Firebirds' second win over the Tornadoes this season and lifts their overall record to 13-7. King fell to 6-17.

Broncos Snap Firebirds Win Streak with 69-62 Defeat
Fayetteville, NC: January 24, 2011-- After riding a 5 game win streak, the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team faltered tonight and fell to the Fayetteville State University Broncos, 69-62, at the Capel Arena in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Firebirds led 33-27 at the break, but the Broncos came storming back in the second half, outscoring them 42-29. UDC fell to 12-7 overall, while Fayetteville improved to 5-11.

Firebirds rout Tigers 92-31, improve win streak to 5 games
Washington, DC: January 18, 2011 – The UDC women’s basketball team (12-6) made quick work of the Salem International University Fighting Tigers (0-16) tonight, as the Firebirds won for the fifth straight game, 92-31.The 92 points were a season-high for the Firebirds, as was the 61-point margin of victory. The 12 wins UDC now has on the year matches last season’s win total.

Philadelphia, PA: January 16, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team extended their win streak to four by defeating the Philadelphia University Rams, 59--52, this afternoon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Firebirds improved their record to 11-6 for the season, as the Rams fell to 7-6.

Women's Basketball Salem International Game Re-scheduled for January 18, at 6 p.m.
The Salem International University Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Team will visit the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team for a mid-season contest on January 18, at 6 p.m., in the UDC Sports Complex. This game was originally scheduled for January 12, but was postponed because Salem was unable to travel to Washington due to inclement weather. The game can be heard live by clicking on the "Game Central" button on the UDC Athletic Web Site's home page.

Firebirds sweep New Years Classic with 67-54 win over Central State
Washington, DC: January 9, 2011 – The UDC women’s basketball team (10-6) used impressive defense and three-point shooting to win their third game in a row, 67-54, over the Central State University Marauders (6-6).The win was the ninth in 10 home games for the Firebirds this season, and they are currently in the midst of their third 3-game winning streak of the year. Both of the previous winning streaks ended after three games.

Joining the Firebirds in the Classic will be the Central State University Marauders, King College Tornadoes, and the Washington Adventist University Shock.

Firebirds hang on for 66 – 62 win over King College in first game of New Years Classic
Washington, DC: January 8, 2011 – The UDC women’s basketball team (9-6) saw a 13-point second half lead dwindle down to just one point, before finally pulling away for a 66-62 win over the King College Tornado (3-13) in the first game of the UDC New Years Classic.The Tornado had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but sophomore guard Brooke Johnson couldn’t knock down a three-pointer with only a couple seconds left that would have put King up by one. Instead, UDC senior forward Lillian McGill (Admin. Of Justice – Sumter, SC) came down with the rebound of the missed shot and was immediately fouled. She took and made two free throws to put the Firebirds up by two scores with only 0.7 seconds left to seal the win for UDC.

Firebird Women will host Fayetteville State Broncos, Monday, 5:30 pm
The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team will host the Fayetteville State University Broncos, Monday, January 3, at 5:30 p.m., in the UDC Sports Complex. The Firebirds (7-6) look to return to their winning ways after a tough series in the West Florida Classic in late December, where they lost two games after several players became ill on the trip. The Broncos (1-6) have not played since a Dec. 16 loss to Hawaii Pacific.

Pensacola, Fl: December 31, 2010-- Playing without the services of their team captain and overall scoring leader, Lillian McGill (Criminal Justice-Sumter, SC), the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team could not sustain their offensive firepower as they fell to the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers 69-65 today in the University of West Florida Holiday Classic in Pensacola Florida. McGill, who was among several members of the Firebirds team suffering from a virus during the Tournament was unable to suit up for today's game.

Washington, DC: December 18, 2010 – Junior guard Jamilia Bonner (Accounting – Mobile, AL) led the Firebirds in scoring for the third game in a row, with 18 points on 50% shooting from the field, as UDC’s women’s basketball team (7-3) defeated the University of New Haven Chargers (2-6), 67-48, in front of 170 fans at the UDC sports complex. The game was part of the UDC Holliday Classic, and the win was the third in a row for the Firebirds, which matches their longest winning-streak this season. Joining Bonner in scoring double figures for UDC were freshman forward Dohnay Banice (Business Administration – Wilmington, DE), who had a season-high 16 points and 11 rebounds, senior forward Lillian McGill (Admin. Of Justice – Sumter, SC), who had 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, and junior guard Kendra Johnson (Mass Media – Mt. Laurel, NJ), who had 10 points.

Indiana, PA: December 3, 2010- In an exciting, close contest, the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks Women's Basketball Team narrowly defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 55-53, tonight in Indiana, Pennsylvania. The Firebirds led most of the game and appeared to seal the win when senior center Lillian McGill (Criminal Justice- Sumter, SC) made a layup with 5 seconds remaining to give UDC a 1-point lead (53-52). IUP then inbounded the ball to Lacey Claar, who passed to Eryn Withers, who shot the ball from beyond the arc with 1 second on the clock, to snatch the win away from the Firebirds. IUP improved to 2-2 with this win, while UDC fell to 4-3.

California, PA: December 1, 2010 – Playing its first ranked opponent this season, the UDC women’s basketball team (4-2) was unable to pull the upset over #24 California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans (4-1), as they lost 64-48.

Firebirds head into Thanksgiving on 3-game win streak, beat Shippensburg 67-56
Washington, DC: November 23, 2010 – Senior forward Lillian McGill (Admin. Of Justice – Sumter, SC) had her fourth double-double in five games, recording 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Lady Firebirds (4-1) in a 67-56 win over the Shippensburg University Raiders (1-3). The win was the third in four days for UDC, and it keeps the Lady Firebirds undefeated at home this season. They took their first lead of the ball game with 18:43 remaining in the first half on a lay-up by McGill that made the score 4-3. McGill had 10 of the team’s first 18 points as the Firebirds went on to lead for the entire half.

Washington, DC: November 21, 2010 – The UDC Lady Firebirds (3-1) stayed undefeated at home this season with a 59-37 win over the St. Paul’s College Tigers (1-3) in the final game of the 2010 UDC Homecoming Thanksgiving Classic.

Washington, DC: November 20, 2010 – Senior forward Lillian McGill (Admin. Of Justice – Sumter, SC ) had her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds pacing the Lady Firebirds (2-1) to a 74-40 win over the Cheyney University Wolves (1-2). The win was the second of the season for the Firebirds at home. Joining McGill in recording double-digit points were junior guard Kendra Johnson (Mass media – Mt. Laurel, NJ) and graduate student forward Niqky Hughes (Public Administration – Fort Worth, TX), each with 12 points. Junior guard Jamilia Bonner (Accounting – Mobile, AL) had 11 points on 4 of 8 shooting from the field.

Washington, DC: November 18, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team has eagerly involved itself with helping the Washington community in the past and this year they have done the same. This year they volunteered their services to the Special Olympics of the District of Columbia and the Food & Friends programs.

Philadelphia, PA: November 17, 2010-The Chestnut Hill College Griffins Women's Basketball Team edged the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds 62-59, tonight, in a fast pace game at the Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Junior guard Kendra Johnson (Mass Media-Mt. Laurel, NJ) scored a game-high 17 points, collected 1 rebound, had 2 assists and made 2 steals coming off the bench to rally the team and help them nearly pull out the win. The UDC bench outscored Chestnut Hill's 33 to 13 in the hard fought contest.

Washington, DC: November 16, 2010— The University of the District of Columbia is observing its annual Homecoming Week with the theme “I Am UDC”, and a broad range of activities, including the UDC Women’s Basketball Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, and Sunday November 20 and 21. Also on Saturday, at 6 p.m., the UDC Firebirds Men’s Basketball Team will play the Mansfield University Mountaineers in the UDC Sports Complex.

Firebirds Women's Basketball Win Season Opener ,69-61,Over IUP
Washington, D.C.: November 14, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebird Women's Basketball team played and defeated a scrappy Indiana University of Pennsylvania team in an exciting game at the Sports Complex today. UDC rallied in the second half of their game against the Crimson Hawks to take the lead with 5:57 remaining, and eventually win, 69-61. The lead changed 9 times in a closely played game until the Firebirds took control in the closing minutes to win while shooting 90 percent from the free throw line.

The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team will play the University of Maryland Terrapins in an exhibition game, Sunday, November 7, at the University of Maryland Comcast Center. College Park, MD: November 7, 2010- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team traveled across town to face the Division I University of Maryland Terrapins, today, in an exhibition contest. It was the first meeting of the teams and Maryland’s height advantage quickly took its toll on the visiting Firebirds. Maryland won the game by the score of 121-50.

University of the District of Columbia Women's Basketball Schedule Announced
Washington, DC: October 6, 2010- The University of the District of Columbia has released its 2010-11 women’s basketball schedule. The Firebirds will face one of the toughest schedules in NCAA Division II Basketball starting with pre-season contests against cross-town Division I programs Howard University on November 3, and the University of Maryland on November 7.
