CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Freshman Denikka Brent earned her second ECC women's basketball rookie of the week honor for her performance during the week ending February 19th, 2012.
Brent (Chesapeake, VA – Booker T. Washington HS) provided the Firebirds a huge lift off the bench in their two wins last week at Mercy and against Bridgeport. She averaged 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds and shot 7-of-14 (50-percent) from the field. Against Mercy, she had a season-high 13 rebounds and a game-high four steals.
A freshman reserve guard, Brent has now earned rookie of the week honors twice, with the first honor coming on February 6th, 2012.
District of Columbia also had sophomore guard Julissa Anderson (Greensboro, NC - Southeast Guilford HS) selected to the weekly honor roll.
Anderson also had an outstanding shooting performance this week, making 10-of-17 from the field (58.8%) and 7-of-9 (77.8%) in a 2-0 week for the Firebird women. She averaged 13.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, blocked three shots and snagged one steal. Against Bridgeport, she was 5-of-5 from three-point range.
The Firebirds are back in action on Wednesday, February 22nd at 5:30 p.m. for Senior Night at UDC Gym.
