    Virginia State Women Sweep UDC, 9-0 Washington, DC: April 9, 2010-- The Virginia State University Trojans Women's Tennis Team swept the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 9-0, this afternoon at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Complex. Union won all singles and doubles matches, shutting out the Firebirds on a chilly, blustery afternoon.

Freshman Andrea Thomas (Capital Heights, MD/Central) captured the only win for the Firebirds in today's match, defeating Lakia Merriweather 4-6. 6-4, 10-3, in singles play.

Union swept the doubles matches, 3-0, then went on to win the singles competitions, 4-2, under a bright sunshiny and windy day.

    T. Richard Mahaffey Named New UDC Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach Washington, DC— Patricia A. Thomas, director of athletics at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) has announced the appointment of Theodore Richard F. Mahaffey, III, as head men’s and women’s tennis coach at the University. Mahaffey comes to the University from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he served as assistant tennis coach for their Division I men’s and women’s tennis teams from 2006 thru early 2009.

The NCAA Division II East Coast Conference (ECC) currently incorporates 8 schools, stretching from Eastern Long Island, New York, to the Southern Central region of Connecticut.
