District of Columbia Suffers Defeat to Chestnut Hill, 1-8
WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team lost to Chestnut Hill College, 1-8. The loss snaps a 13-match home win streak dating back to September 11, 2011.
The Firebirds began the day with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles match due to an insufficient lineup. Junior Sofia Leon (Psychology – Quito, Ecuador/Pensionado Universitario) and senior Tadai Abilla (TV Production – Galloway, NJ/Absegami HS) dropped the No. 2 doubles match 1-8 to Dennis and Oechsle of Chestnut Hill. Junior Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering – Guayaquil, Ecuador/American School of Guayaquil) and sophomore Maxime Duijst (Biology – Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Pleincollege Sint-Joris) stumbled to a 2-8 defeat to doubles pair of Shcherbackova and Parapouras.
Singles play started with two losses due to forfeit for the Firebirds because of insufficient lineups. All four Firebirds tennis members played very close singles matches, but only one of the matches came out with a victory for University of DC. The lone win of the day came in the form of Nunez defeating Shcherbackova in the No. 1 singles match by a score of 7-6(6), 6-4.
District of Columbia will be back in action at home as they take on Holy Family at 1:00 pm on April 13.
