University of the District of Columbia's Operation Military Kids Program Tours Athletic Facility
WASHINGTON, DC - Twenty-two students between the ages of 8 and 15 from the DC National Guard Family Readiness and the University of the District of Columbia's Operation Military Kids (OMK) program, visited the school's campus today for an informational athletics tour by Associate Athletic Director, Matt Rienzo.
Rienzo talked about the school, its 10 athletic sport offerings, its Division II and East Coast Conference affiliations, and he also highlighted some of the team's most recent successes, such as the Indoor Track & Field squad's ECC championship in March.
He also guided the children on a tour of the athletics facilities in Building 47, including the gymnasium and the natatorium.
OMK is the US Army's collaborative effort with America's communities to support children and youth of National Guard, Army Reserve and active duty families impacted by the global war on terrorism. State 4-H Military Liaisons lead OMK State Teams in 34 states in partnership with the Army National Guard, Army Reserve, the Military Child Education Coalition, Boys & Girls Club of America, the American Legion and schools. These and other community organizations are joining Army Child & Youth Services to support "Suddenly Military" youth before, during and after the deployment of a parent or loved one.
