4x100 Meter Relay Team and Maurisa Williams Qualify for NCAA Track & Field Championships Finals

San Angelo, Texas: May 21, 2009—The University of the District of Columbia Outdoor 4x100 Meter Relay Team competed in the preliminary heat at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this afternoon and ran fast enough to qualify for the Championship  finals this Saturday. The team finished in 6th place with the time of 46.19 in the preliminary heat. They entered the race as the number 10th ranked team and moved up to the 6th spot as a result of their performance in the heat.

The team is comprised of All-American sophomore sprinter Erica Nixon (Bronx, NY), senior sprinter Cottrell Martin (Freeport, Bahamas), All American sophomore sprinter Saleena Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica), and senior sprinter Maurisa Williams (Sicklerville, NJ).


Maurisa Williams, running in the 400 meter dash, beat her own personal best performance in the 400 by finishing in 54.77 seconds, qualifying to compete in the finals. 

The 4x400 meter relay team will compete on Friday evening in the preliminary. UDC Head Coach Marc J. Harrison said, “While I am happy about their performances thus far, we have a lot more work to do. I am extremely confident about our chances in the Championships.”
