University of the District of Columbia Women's Outdoor Track and Field Impresses at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA - The University of the District of Columbia women's outdoor track and field squad competed in select events of the world-famous Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field on Thursday, April 26th and Friday, April 27th.
First, the Firebirds had an individual, Areial Clark, compete in the shot put event on Thursday afternoon. Clark (Kenessaw, GA - North Cobb HS) took 19th in a field of 24 competitors with a toss of 12.21M.
Next, the No. 6 ranked 4x400M relay team in the East region competed on Thursday afternoon as well. The team of Callister Jones, Kaydian Jones, Kimoy Mais and Kaneesha Hollis ran a season-best time of 3:54.46, taking 6th place in its heat and 59th place overall in a field of 77 teams - many of which were Division I schools.
Finally, the Firebirds assembled a 4x200M team that ran this afternoon. Callister Jones, Kaneesha Hollis, Shauna-Kay Creary and Kaydian Jones came together to run a very impressive time of 1:42.19. Also in a field that included several Division I schools, UDC was 4th in its heat and 32nd overall out of 51 teams.
More than 22,000 athletes spanning more than 60 different countries compete in this event each year - which is more than the total number of athletes that compete in the Olympic Games. The attendance on Thursday, despite a cold, rainy day at Franklin Field, was 23,075. The approximate attendance for this afternoon was 26,000. Also, the event office anticipates at least 4,000 online video stream subscribers as well.
