UDC Lady Firebirds Defeat St. Paul’s Lady Tigers,3-0, In Volleyball

Lawrenceville, VA: October 24, 2006—The St. Paul’s College Lady Tigers gave it their best effort, but could not overcome the superior play of the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds, losing a volleyball match, 3-0, to them tonight  in Lawrenceville, Virginia.  UDC won the match with scores of 30-15, 30-9, and 30-15.

Freshman Daniella Bezerra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) paced the Lady Firebirds with 19 kills, 30 attacks, 6 service aces, and 11 defensive digs. Freshman Laila Benjamin (Houston, TX)  added 11 kills, 19 attacks, and 4 service aces, while junior Lusianna Sotelo contributed 9 kills, 20 attacks, 1 service ace and 5 defensive digs to the winning effort.

UDC will next see action on Friday, October 27, at 6 p.m., at home, in a re-match against the Barton College Lady Bulldogs. UDC will be seeking to win the last of the three contests they will play against Barton, after having lost to them twice earlier in the season.
