2006 Volleyball Season Set to Begin August 29th

The University of the District of Columbia, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics released its 2006 Women’s Volleyball Team roster, with a squad consisting of two returning players, four transfers and five newcomers. Dr. Harold M. Merritt, director of athletics at the University of the District of Columbia said, “I am excited about getting the season underway with a lot of new faces, new coach and players coming in from around the world. I am also excited about prospects for the new season and hope the District of Columbia community will come out to support the team”

 UDC’s new Head Women’s Volleyball Coach China Jude, who assumed the reins of this program in May of 2006, has recruited nine new players for a squad that was ravished by injuries, last season. Coach Jude said, “I spent a lot of time and effort searching for young ladies who wanted to be a part of the new Lady Firebird program, and look forward to the support of the UDC community in rebuilding the program.

 The Lady Firebirds will start the 2006 season, Tuesday, August 29, at 6 p.m., against the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland. The schedule of matches and team roster can be found on this Web Site under Women's Sports
