UDC Avenges Early Season Volleyball Loss to St. Augustine’s, 3-0

Washington, DC: October 18, 2006—The University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds waited patiently for the volleyball re-match with the Lady Mighty Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College, hoping to avenge their September 30, loss to them in Raleigh, North Carolina. Finally, the day was here, and UDC wasted little time in sending them a message that they were ready to return the favor by jumping out to an early lead in first game and kept the pressure on to win the match 3-0. Game scores were 30-19, 30-16, and 30-15.

Pacing the Lady Firebirds to victory was freshman Ashonte Pryor (St. Rose, LA) with 16 kills, 25 attacks and 3 defensive digs. Freshman Daniella Bezerra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) followed with 13 kills, 32 attacks, 3 service aces and 5 defensive digs.

None of St. Augustine’s players reached double-digits in kills. Curby Rogers managed a game high of 6 kills for the Mighty Lady Falcons.

The Lady Firebirds,  now 11-4 for the season, will face the East Stroudsburg Lady Warriors on October 21, in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
