UDC Defeats Chowan to Win Final Match of Season

Murfreesboro, NC: October 31, 2006—The Lady Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia closed out their 2006 season with a 3-0 defeat of the Lady Hawks of Chowan University, tonight, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. With this win, UDC finished the season with a 14-7 record.

Freshman Daniella Bezerra concluded her first year of play leading the Lady Firebirds with 17 kills, 34 offensive attacks, and 8 defensive digs.  Bezerra has been nationally ranked for most of the season. Ashonte Pryor (St. Rose, La), another freshman, followed with 9 kills, 24 offensive attacks, 2 service aces and 6 defensive digs. Sophomore Julia da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) setup numerous scoring opportunities for the team by delivering 32 set assists.

Jazmin Orozco provided 9 kills, 24 offensive attacks, and 2 service aces, and 6 defensive digs for the Lady Hawks.  Christina Johnson added 7 kills, 21 offensive attacks and 3 defensive digs.
