UDC Women’s Volleyball Drops Two Matches at NYIT

Old Westbury, NY – The UDC Women's Volleyball Team concluded a difficult three game road trip with two losses today to Franklin Pierce and New York Institute of Technology. With the losses the Firebirds fall to 4-8 on the year, 0-2 in the conference.

In the first match of the day the Firebirds fell to Franklin Pierce 3-1.  The first set was close most of the way until Franklin Pierce score five of the last six points to secure the game 25-17. In the second game Franklin Pierce took control early, establishing an 18-7 lead.  The Firebirds surged but eventually fell 25-16.  The third set was neck and neck all the way and was ultimately tied at 25.  The Firebirds were able to pull off the victory 27-25 to bring the match to 2-1.  But Franklin Pierced proved to be too much for the Firebirds, winning the 4th set 25-17 and closing out the match.

In the second match the Firebirds fell to NYIT 3-0, their second loss in the East Coast Conference (ECC).  The bears gained control of each set quickly and didn't relinquish the lead, winning 25-11, 25-14, 25-12. 

UDC was paced on the day by Junior libero Grace Perilli (Lewisburg, WV – Independence HS) with 22 digs in 2 matches.

The Firebirds return to action on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 pm at the UDC Gym against ECC foe CW Post.
