University of the District of Columbia Volleyball Inks California Junior College Standout Tara Usko

Tara Usko, a 5-11 middle blocker, was ranked 10th in blocks among all California Community College schools last year.

WASHINGTON, DC  –  Tara Lynn Usko, a standout middle blocker at Feather River College (CA) and Spring Creek High School (NV), has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of the District of Columbia in the Fall 2012, it was announced Monday, July 9th, 2012 by head coach Sheila Weaver.

"Tara will provide our team with experience and leadership," Weaver said. "She has certainly proven her capabilities as one of the top blockers in Junior College, and she will be an extremely important component of our team this Fall."

Usko led the Golden Eagles to the California Community College Elite 8 in 2008 and most recently, the Sweet 16 in 2011. During the Fall 2011 season, she was the team captain, and led the team to an undefeated regular season and conference championship. She was named honorable mention All-Conference and ranked 10th in all of California for blocks. She also earned the team's Coach's Award.

Before attending Feather River, the Spring Creek, Nevada native starred at Spring Creek High School, leading the team in blocks her final three seasons. In 2006 she earned the Inspiration and Leadership Award and in 2007 she was named team captain.

At 5-11, Usko anticipates she will play both middle blocker and opposite for the Firebirds in 2012. UDC ranked 5th out of eight teams in the conference last season with an average of 1.44 blocks per set.

Usko graduated from Spring Creek High with an Advanced High School Diploma and has already earned an Associates of Art degree with an emphasis in Humanities. She plans to major in history at the University of the District of Columbia, and aspires to one day be a museum archivist.
