Volleyball Adds Star Setter Recruit, Sara Stuart
WASHINGTON, DC - Former John H. Pitman High School (CA) and San Joaquin Delta College (CA) standout setter, Sara Stuart, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of the District of Columbia in the fall of 2012.
Sara was instrumental in the Mustangs reaching the Final Four of the Northern California Playoffs and led the Mustangs to the 2011 Delta Classic where she earned All-Tournament honors. Stuart also garnered First Team All-League honors in 2011 in the Big 8 Conference. Additionally, she was awarded the Torch of Academic Excellence in 2010 and 2011 for her accomplishments in the classroom.
Prior to attending Delta College, Stuart was a standout on her Pitman High School team. She earned Most Valuable Player honors after the 2005, 2007, and 2008 seasons and was recognized as an All-League selection in 2008 as well.
Stuart has previously played setter and libero but head coach Sheila Weaver anticipates she will primarily be used as a setter in college.
"An All-Conference setter, Sara has great court sense," Weaver said. "She is formerly a libero, so she brings tremendous versatility to both our offense and defense."
Stuart joins a Firebirds squad that ranked last in the East Coast Conference in assists with just 8.75 apg. She plans to major in Psychology and aspires to use her degree to become a Psychiatrist.
