Talented Hitter Cherakye Lopez Rounds Out 2012 Volleyball Recruiting Class
WASHINGTON, DC – Cherakye Lopez, a talented and versatile middle and outside hitter out of Lynchburg, VA , has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of the District of Columbia in the Fall of 2012.
Lopez had a stellar volleyball career at Timberlake Christian School, namely a 2nd Team All-State selection in 2010. That season she also earned All-District and All-Region honors, and a Most Valuable Player distinct in the Friendship Tournament. In 2011, she earned 2nd Team All-South Region and was named to three different All-Tournament teams.
"Cherakye is a very well-rounded player," head volleyball coach Sheila Weaver said. "She is a solid passer and plays good defense at the net."
Lopez joins a Firebirds squad that earned an 11-22 record last Fall, including a 2-12 league mark in its inaugural season as a member of the East Coast Conference. She will add firepower to an offense that ranked last in the league in kills (10.04 kpg).
A member of Timberlake's National Honors Society, Lopez graduated with an advanced diploma and honors. She will study Marketing at University of the District of Columbia, and aspires to be a market analyst.
