Jazmin Rogers Earns East Coast Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - Freshman Jazmin Rogers (Mechanical Engineering - Tucson, AZ/Palo Verde HS) was named the East Coast Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for her performance in the week ending September 16th, 2012.
Rogers hit .450 pct. as she tallied 10 kills to lead the Firebirds to two consecutive 3-0 sweeps of Bowie St. and Washington Adventist last week. She also added four service aces and pitched in with six digs. She was particularly impressive in District of Columbia's resounding win over Washington Adventist, where she recorded a match-high seven kills while hitting a scorching .600 pct. and serving two aces.
Junior Tara Usko (History - Spring Creek, NV/Spring Creek HS) also was named to the Week 3 Honor Roll for her performance last week. Usko led the Firebirds with 14 kills (2.33 per set), hit .500 pct., served four aces and pitched in with seven digs.
The Firebirds have earned two impressive, 3-0 back-to-back wins over non-conference foes Bowie State and Washington Adventist as they now enter the ECC portion of their schedule with an overall record of 4-5. Their first ECC match of the year is at Mercy College on Tues., Sept. 18, and then they come home to host NYIT on Thurs., Sept. 20.
