Brookville, NY– The UDC Women's Cross Country Team traveled up to Brookville, NY on Sunday to make their debut in the ECC Cross Country Championships. The Firebirds were determined to make a statement and leave an impression in the East Coast Conference. The team was led by Senior Kaneesha Hollis (Centreville, MD) and Junior Callister Jones (Fort Washington, MD).
As they've shown all season, Hollis and Jones both had strong finishes at the ECC Cross Country Championships held at C.W. Post University. Hollis finished in 23rd place in a personal best of 21:31. Following her was fellow teammate, Jones in 24th place with the same finishing time. Next for the Firebirds was Junior Clarice Melvin (Lanham, MD) who came in 52nd overall with a time of 25:22 minutes.
Coach Alton McKenzie was pleased with his team's performance and said, "Kaneesha and Callister led us as they've done all season and ran really great races to finish the Cross Country season with personal best times. The team on a whole competed hard this entire Cross Country season, and with a team made up primarily of sprinters, we're looking forward to utilizing this strength we've gained from Cross Country for the Indoor & Outdoor Seasons."
