Firebirds XC Team Places 2nd in Green Terror Challenge

Westminister, MD: September 13, 2008-- The Firebirds Men's Cross-Country Team placed 2nd overall in the McDaniel College Green Terror Challenge, today in Westminister, Maryland. Top finisher in the 5k was Justine Chemallan (Fr, Nandi Hills, Kenya) who finished 6th. Justine and his older brother Wilfred were the top UDC runners in the 3k race finishing 2nd and third respectively.

The Firebirds took 2nd in the 5k as well as placing 2nd in the 3k. “That was a tough field of runners…  I was disappointed with their finish in the 5k but they redeemed themselves inthe3k,”said Coach Marc Harrison.“Coach Leon Samuels(UDC 04’) has put in a lot of his time and the athletes are truly responding to his coaching,” said Harrison.

“It’s time for them to start stepping up, next week (@ Iona College) is not going to be easy…” said assistant coach Leon Samuels. The Firebirds will be competing against some of the top XC runners in the country in Division I, II, and III on Saturday, September 20th at the IONA Meet of Champions in Bronx, NY.
