UDC Sweeps Trinity, 3-0, in Volleyball on Senior Night

Washington, DC: October 17, 2007—Junior Anne Sanchez paced the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds to their third sweep of the Trinity University Lady Tigers this season tonight in the UDC Physical Activities Center. Sanchez made 12 kills, 20 attacks and 5 service aces as she led UDC to their 9th win of the season.

Freshman Ashley Jefferson contributed 7 kills, 17 attacks, 6 services aces and 6 defensive digs to the win, while freshman teammate Karen Trevino added 7 kills, 13 attacks, 2 service aces and 2 defensive digs. Freshman Joi Upton gave 17 assists in the 30-13, 30-23, and 30-13 win.

Danielle Owens led the Lady Tigers with 5 kills, 18 attacks and 5 defensive digs, followed by Alison Dobbs with 3 kills, 10 attacks and 2 service aces. With tonight’s win, the Lady Firebirds are now 9-8 for the season, while Trinity falls to 0-18.

Senior Recognition Night was also celebrated honoring the conclusion of the volleyball college playing career of senior Arielle Fox. Arielle, a communications major, is expected to graduate in the near future. She carries a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, played three sports and writes for the student newspaper and the UDC Athletics Department web Site.

UDC will be back in action on October 21, against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
