UDC Athletics Department Completes $2.3 million Tennis Court Renovations

Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's athletic department has completed renovations of the Tennis courts. The $2.3 million project was awarded to KADCON and is the second phase of the overall $10 million spending plan for the athletic complex renovations, which began with the UDC gymnasium, back in 2019.

These renovations were originally planned for summer of 2020 but pushed back due to the pandemic. The project includes an upgrade of 5 tennis courts and the installation of new playing surface with post-tension concrete overlay of the existing surface.

The drainage around the perimeter of the courts were restored and a new privacy screening was installed around the existing chain link fence. The existing light fixtures were also replaced with LED light fixtures and the chain link fencing was painted.

"Rebuilding our tennis courts is a major milestone in phase two of comprehensive upgrades to the sports complex facilities," said Director of Athletics, Patricia Thomas. "While our programs have enjoyed a good measure of success academically as well as competitively in Conference play and throughout the region, our beautiful new courts will lift Firebird tennis to the next level".

" It means a lot to me and the Mens' and Women's Tennis Teams to be able to practice and compete on campus," said Coach Mahaffey. The new tennis facility will further enhance the UDC student-athlete experience."
