Kasim Chandler Earns 2nd East Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Kasim Chandler earned his 2nd East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season on Monday for his performance in the week ending February 14th.
The junior transfer point guard led the Firebirds to three straight ECC victories last week – each of which saw UDC score 100 or more points. Chandler averaged 20.3 points, 7.7 assists and 5.0 rebounds per-game, shot 51.3 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from long range and 90.0 percent (18-of-20) at the free-throw line. He had a 3.8 assist-to-turnover ratio and registered three steals for the week.
The Firebirds, who have now won four straight games – including the program's first ever win over Bridgeport at Hubbell Gym – are now in 3rd place in the ECC standings. They will visit Mercy College on Thursday night, and then return home to host league-leading St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday for the NCAA Division II Game of the Week broadcasted by American Sports Network.
