FIREBIRDS WELCOME JASON A. ARMSTRONG AS NEW MEN’S BASKETBALL ASSISTANT COACH
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Basketball program has announced the addition of Jason Armstrong as its new Assistant Coach for the 2025–26 season. Armstrong joins the Firebirds' staff with an impressive background in player development, recruiting, and program leadership across multiple levels of competitive basketball.
"The men's basketball program is excited to announce Jason Armstrong as our new assistant coach," said head coach Mike Riley. "Jason is coming home because he is a former student athlete at the University of the District of Columbia who played basketball for the legendary Will Jones. Coach Armstrong has been successful and won championships as an assistant coach and a head coach at the collegiate level. We look forward to working with Jason using his experience to have a successful season."
Armstrong brings a wealth of coaching experience, having served in a variety of roles that span coaching, scouting, and player development. Armstrong has achieved success at several Division II programs, demonstrating the ability to build and sustain winning cultures. His most recent success came as Assistant Coach at Dominican University (N.Y.), where he helped guide the Chargers to the 2024–25 CACC Regular Season Championship and a 21–9 overall record, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Before his time at Dominican, Armstrong served as Head Coach at Lincoln University (Pa.), where he led the Lions to their first-ever CIAA Conference Tournament Championship in 2024, securing the program's inaugural NCAA Tournament berth.
Over the course of his career, Armstrong has helped three different programs — Lincoln (Pa.), Dominican (N.Y.), and Bloomfield College — earn NCAA Tournament appearances. During his tenure as an Assistant Coach at Bloomfield, he helped the Bears capture back-to-back conference titles (2012 & 2013) and reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
Armstrong earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of the District of Columbia, where he was also a student-athlete. Returning to his alma mater marks a full-circle moment in his coaching journey. Throughout his career, Armstrong has been defined by his commitment to player development, academic excellence, and fostering a championship culture built on discipline, leadership, and teamwork.
