Firebirds Earn Home Conference Win Over Roberts Wesleyan
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team picked up an 85–74 East Coast Conference victory over Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday night at the EB Henderson Sports Complex, using an efficient offensive performance and strong rebounding to secure the home win.
UDC (3-13, 2-6 ECC) set the tone early, jumping out to a 43–28 lead at halftime behind strong shooting and interior play. The Firebirds maintained control throughout the second half, answering each Roberts Wesleyan run to close out the conference victory.
Michael Harrell led all scorers with a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, while adding eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals in a complete performance.
Arthur Roache followed with 16 points and seven rebounds, providing steady production in the paint, while freshman Oliver Spence continued his strong play with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal, shooting 7-of-9 from the floor.
UDC showcased its depth with Rejuan Gray contributing 12 points, and Darnell Dantzler adding four points and five assists off the bench. The Firebirds finished the night shooting an efficient 64.0 percent from the field, while holding Roberts Wesleyan to 44.4 percent shooting.
The Firebirds also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Redhawks 36–22, and recorded five steals and three blocks defensively to disrupt Roberts Wesleyan's offensive rhythm.
The Firebirds will remain home next Wednesday, hosting Molloy University in another East Coast Conference matchup at the EB Henderson Sports Complex.
