Firebirds Roll Past Queens on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team closed out the regular season in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Queens College 82–67 on Senior Day at the E.B. Henderson Sports Complex.

With the victory, the Firebirds secured their second straight win to end the season and split the season series with the Knights.

After trailing 30–28 at halftime, UDC erupted for 54 second-half points to pull away decisively. The Firebirds shot an efficient 49.2 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from three-point range, while limiting Queens to 32.0 percent shooting overall.

Kevon Corley provided a spark off the bench, leading UDC with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Darnell Dantzler filled the stat sheet with a career-high 15 points and eight assists, while Arthur Roache added 13 points and eight rebounds. Michael Harrell chipped in 12 points, and David Pope contributed eight points and four rebounds.

UDC's defensive pressure played a key role in the second-half surge, holding Queens to just 37 points after the break and forcing 11 turnovers on the afternoon.

The Firebirds also controlled the boards, finishing with 42 total rebounds and nine offensive boards to generate second-chance opportunities.

The win caps a strong finish for UDC, as the Firebirds close the regular season on a two-game winning streak and split the season series with Queens after falling in the earlier meeting.

Honoring their seniors before tip-off, the Firebirds delivered a complete team performance in front of their home crowd to close out the season.
