ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team dropped a 14–2 decision to Dominican University on Wednesday afternoon at O'Brien Field.
Dominican set the tone early, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter to take control of the contest. UDC struck first when Myles Henry found the back of the net with 13:44 remaining in the first quarter to give the Firebirds an early 1–0 lead, but the Chargers responded with a scoring run that carried into the second half.
Henry led the Firebirds offensively with two goals, including UDC's opening tally and another late in the fourth quarter off an assist from Kalam Howlett.
Defensively, goalkeeper Israel Amajioyi recorded 19 saves while facing heavy pressure from the Dominican attack. The Firebirds also battled on the ground, finishing with 41 ground balls in the game.
UDC generated 28 shots in the contest and controlled the faceoff battle behind Kelvin Pham, who went 13-for-18 at the X.
The Firebirds return home this weekend to open conference play against D'Youville University. The matchup is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the E.B. Henderson Sports Complex.
