DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team fell to Mercy University, 22–5, on Sunday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.
Mercy came out strong, building an early lead with eight goals in the opening quarter and extending it to 15–0 by halftime.
The Firebirds found their offensive rhythm in the second half, scoring three goals in the third quarter and adding two more in the fourth.
Myles Henry led the Firebirds with two goals, while Patrick Nyarko, Amarius Sekajipo, and Kelvin Pham each added a goal. Aiden O'Brien and Kalam Howlett each recorded an assist in the contest.
Defensively, UDC was led by goalkeeper Israel Amajioyi, who recorded 15 saves while facing 37 shots on goal.
The Firebirds also battled on the ground, collecting 24 ground balls, with Nyarko leading the way with five.
The Firebirds return home next Saturday to host Roberts Wesleyan in East Coast Conference action. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
