Firebirds Celebrate 2024 ECC Championship with Ring Ceremony at Home Opener
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Soccer program honored its historic 2024 East Coast Conference Championship team with a pregame ring ceremony Thursday evening at the UDC Turf Field. The celebration took place just before the Firebirds' 2025 season opener against Shepherd University.
The Firebirds captured the 2024 ECC title last fall, marking the program's first conference championship in program history. UDC defeated Molloy University 2-1 in OT, to secure the victory.
On Thursday, the championship squad was recognized in front of Firebird fans, family, and university leadership. UDC President Dr. Maurice Edington, Chief Student Development and Success Officer Dr. Ruthie Little-Berry, Senior Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer Dr. Richard Lucas, Director of Athletics Patricia Thomas, and members of the UDC administration presented the players and coaching staff with their championship rings.
Following the ceremony, the Firebirds officially kicked off the 2025 campaign, looking to build on the championship foundation set last season.
