Firebirds Fall to Mount St. Mary's in Cross-Division Match Up
EMMITSBURG, MD – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team battled against Division I opponent Mount St. Mary's University but came up short, falling 5-2 in a competitive cross-division match up. The Firebirds showed resilience in singles play but were unable to recover after dropping all three doubles matches.
The Firebirds struggled to gain momentum in doubles action, as Mount St. Mary's swept all three matches to claim the opening point. The duo of Louka Queguiner and Oskar Karos fought hard at No. 1 doubles but fell in a close 7-5 match. Sebastiano Palma and Elouan Queguiner also kept their match within reach at No. 2 doubles before ultimately falling 6-4.
In singles play, Ghali Ouajahat Filali was a bright spot for UDC, dominating at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Aaron Thompson. Filippo Vatteroni also delivered a strong performance at No. 6 singles, securing a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alessio Guarino. However, the Mountaineers managed to secure the overall victory by taking four of the six singles matches, including a hard-fought battle at No. 1 singles where Louka Queguiner pushed his match to three sets before falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to Akarsh Gaonkar.
