Firebirds Earn Statement Victory Over #49 Queens College In Conference Rematch

Washington, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team delivered a standout performance, securing an impressive 5-2 victory over #49 Queens College to split the season series for the second consecutive year. This crucial win improves the Firebirds' overall record to 5-4 while evening their ECC record at 1-1 as they continue their push for a strong conference finish.

The match began with a competitive doubles battle, where the Firebirds fought hard but ultimately lost two of the three matchups. At the top spot, Louis Mangeon and Louka Queguiner faced a tough challenge, falling 6-1 to the duo of L. Foix Sotos and Alleno from Queens. Meanwhile, the No. 3 doubles pairing of Oskar Karos and Filippo Vatteroni, claimed a hard-fought 7-5 victory over Brightman and J. Foix Sotos. At  No. 2.  Sebastiano Palma and Elouan Queguiner pushed their opponents to a tiebreaker but fell just short, 7-6(6), against Cerne and Serrano, to head into singles play down 1-0. 

UDC showed resilience and determination in the singles matches, securing five wins across the board. Louis Mangeon led the charge at the No. 1 singles spot, battling to a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Lucas Foix Sotos. At No. 3 singles, Elouan Queguiner put forth a dominant showing, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Samuel Linck.

One of the most thrilling matches of the day came at No. 2 singles, where Louka Queguiner engaged in a marathon battle against Tim Andersson. After dropping a tightly contested first-set tiebreaker, Queguiner fought back to take the second set 7-5 and ultimately clinched the match in another tiebreak, 7-6(0), securing a crucial win for the Firebirds. Meanwhile, at No. 5 singles, Oskar Karos delivered another clutch performance, taking down Caleb Brightman in straight sets, 7-6(2), 6-3.

The match-clinching victory came from Ghali Ouajahat Filali, who defeated his opponent, David Cerne, in a convincing 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 6 singles. UDC dropped the No. 4 singles match, where Sebastiano Palma fought hard but fell in three sets to Adam Laur, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0.
