MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team opened dual play with a  5–2 victory over Millersville University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Firebirds came out sharp in doubles play, taking two of three matches to secure the opening point. The duo of Elouan Queguiner and Sebastiano Palma earned a 6–3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Filippo Vatteroni and Aurelien Coan battled to a tight 7–5 victory at No. 2. UDC defaulted at No. 3 doubles but carried the 1–0 advantage into singles play.

The Firebirds then dominated the singles lineup, claiming four of five contested matches. Sebastiano Palma cruised to a commanding 6–1, 6–1 win at the top spot, and Elouan Queguiner followed with a steady 6–4, 6–4 victory at No. 3 singles. Aurelien Coan and Filippo Vatteroni each added clutch wins—Coan earning a 6–4, 6–3 result at No. 4 and Vatteroni grinding out a 6–3, 0–6, 1–0(8) triumph at No. 5.

Oskar Karos battled through a three-set marathon at No. 2 before falling 6–7(6), 6–2, 6–3, while UDC defaulted at No. 6 singles.

With the victory, the Firebirds improve to 1–0 on the young season. They will head to Chestnut Hill on Sunday.
