UDC Cross-Country Teams to Compete In NCAA Southeast Regionals
James Kichwen (sophomore-Kapsabet, Kenya) and Stellah Sang ( sophomore-Kapsabet, Kenya) will anchor the University of the District of Columbia Men’s & Women’s Cross-Country teams in the NCAA Cross-Country Southeast Regionals on November 3, 2007, in Wingate, North Carolina. Each has placed first in several meets this year, and established course records.
This is the second year in a row that UDC has qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships. Head Coach Marc J. Harrison said, “Kichwen and Sang have established themselves as serious competitors for the title. Both teams going to the Regionals exemplify the type of student-athletes that are being trained here at UDC-- on and off the track.”T
Last year Wilfred Chemallan (junior- Nandi Hills, Kenya) competed there and went on to compete in the NCAA Cross-Country National Championship in Florida. He is recovering from a hip injury this year but expects to compete in North Carolina.
Irene Rono (junior- Kapsabet, Kenya), another promising member of the women’s cross-country team who finished high in several meets this year, is developing nicely. She has been improving her time in each meet and expects to run well in the Regionals.
The women’s team is comprised primarily
of track runners who have adjusted quite well to endurance
competition. It has been a new feel for them, but they have
mastered the task and look forward to competing in the
Regionals.
