Johnson Scores 1,000th Career Point in Firebirds Battle Against Staten Island
Staten Island, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team put up a strong fight on the road but fell to East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Staten Island, 76-67. The game was highlighted by senior guard Laci Johnson reaching the 1,000-point milestone for her career.
Johnson, who has been a key offensive leader for UDC, entered the game needing 21 points to reach the milestone and hit the mark in the second half. She finished the night with a game-high 22 points, adding to her career total. UDC trailed by just one point (19-18) after the first quarter. The Firebirds were unable to close the gap after a second-quarter surge by the Dolphins. UDC fought back in the third quarter but couldn't complete the comeback. Staten Island was led by Jenalyse Alarcon, who scored 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, while Dana Phelan added 13 points for the Dolphins.
