PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team kicked off 2026 with a road victory on Friday afternoon, defeating Lincoln University (Pa.), 58–52, at Manuel Rivero Hall.
The Firebirds (4-8, 1-2 ECC) were led by a dominant performance from Aiyana Ellis, who finished with a 22-point, 13-rebound double-double while adding three steals and two blocks. Ellis shot 11-for-21 from the field, controlling the paint and setting the tone on both ends of the floor.
UDC opened the game with a strong first quarter, outscoring Lincoln 17–12, and maintained control throughout the contest. The Firebirds held a narrow lead heading into the fourth quarter before closing out the win with a 16-point final frame.
In addition to Ellis' standout effort, LeAsia Todd recorded 10 rebounds, while Kristian Harris contributed seven points and three assists. The Firebirds forced 18 turnovers and finished with 13 steals, applying consistent defensive pressure throughout the game.
The Firebirds return home on Sunday to face Elizabeth City State for their final non conference game of the season. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
