Firebirds Secure Home Conference Win Over Roberts Wesleyan
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team earned a 64–55 East Coast Conference victory over Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday evening at the EB Henderson Sports Complex, closing the game in regulation.
UDC (7-11, 3-5 ECC) built momentum early and never relinquished control, taking a 16–15 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 28–26 at halftime. The Firebirds delivered their strongest stretch in the third quarter, outscoring the Redhawks 18–9, creating separation that proved decisive down the stretch.
LeAsia Todd led the Firebirds with a dominant performance in the paint, finishing with 14 points, 17 rebounds, and six blocks, anchoring UDC on both ends of the floor. Aiyana Ellis added 13 points, along with six assists, three steals, and four blocks, continuing her strong all-around play.
Nhaikyia Smith contributed 11 points and seven assists, while Kristian Harris added nine points and seven rebounds. Off the bench, Aliyah Eason provided a spark with eight points, and Shaima James Lewis chipped in four.
The Firebirds finished with a 46–41 rebounding advantage, including 18 offensive boards, and recorded 10 blocks and 11 steals defensively, disrupting Roberts Wesleyan throughout the contest.
Roberts Wesleyan was led by Aniyah Jones with 16 points, but UDC limited the Redhawks to 33.3 percent shooting from the field to secure the conference home win.
The Firebirds will remain home next Wednesday, hosting Molloy University in another East Coast Conference matchup.
