Washington, D.C. — The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team faced a tough test on Friday evening, falling 79–51 to No. 13 Daemen in East Coast Conference action at home. The Wildcats also completed the season series sweep over the Firebirds with the victory.
Daemen jumped out to an early lead, taking a 15–9 advantage after the first quarter and extending the margin into halftime. UDC responded with its best offensive quarter in the third, scoring 22 points, but the Wildcats maintained control down the stretch.
Calista Gaymon led the Firebirds with a team-high 15 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field. Le'Asia Todd recorded a strong all-around performance, finishing with eight points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while adding three assists and two blocks to anchor the interior.
Kristian Harris contributed six points and a team-best six assists, while Dashani Coleman added seven points off the bench. UDC finished with 41 rebounds and 19 assists but was plagued by 26 turnovers.
Daemen, ranked 13th nationally, was led by Ne'vaeh Buntley's 22 points, with multiple Wildcats scoring in double figures as the visitors shot 43.8 percent from the field.
The Firebirds will look to regroup and continue conference play as they prepare for their next home matchup on Sunday against D'Youville.
