UDC Women’s Tennis Voted to Finish Third in the ECC Preseason Poll

Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team was voted to finish 3rd in the ECC preseason poll. The Firebirds, who haven't competed since early spring of 2020, welcome four new student-athletes while welcoming back three All-Conference nominee players.

UDC finished their last season with a 13-2 overall record, after it was cut short due to Covid lockdowns back in the spring of 2020. They were the ECC Championships runner up, losing by only one point to Queens College in the finals.

First-team All- Conference pick, Simoné Pärn returns for her final season and is joined by ECC Second-Team picks, Joanna Skrzypczynska and Sofia Bellucco. They welcome three freshmen players, Valentina BrienzaClaudia Bahamon and Laura Marie; as well as a transfer player, Mariona Franco.

"We're really happy to be back on the court and excited for the upcoming season,' said Head Coach Mahaffey. "The teams knows that competition in the ECC and the East Region will be tough and are looking forward to the challenge."

The Firebirds will open their season on Saturday, September 11, at Frostburg State. The first Match is slated to start at 2:00pm.
