Célia Bastin Named ECC Rookie of the Year; Laura Marie and Simoné Pärn Named to ECC First-Team
WEST BABYLON, N.Y.- Célia Bastin was named the ECC Rookie of the Year as was announced by the conference office this morning. Bastin, along with teammates Simoné Pärn and Laura Marie were also named to All'Conference First-Team.
Bastin went undefeated in conference play in both singles and doubles. She heads into the conference tournament with a 9-1 singles record and a 7-2 doubles record. A four-time ECC Rookie of the Week, Bastin was also a perfect 5-0 in both singles (No. 4 and No. 5) and doubles (No. 2) during conference play. This marks the second consecutive year that the ECC Rookie of the Year has come from UDC (teammate Valentina Brienza earned the honor last year).
Pärn went 4-1 in conference play with her only loss coming at the hands of Player of the Year, Ebba Rosberg from St Thomas Aquinas. Her and teammate Sofia Bellucco went 3-2 in doubles play at the No.1 position.
Marie also went undefeated in both singles and doubles play in the conference. She was Bastin's partner at the No.2 spot for doubles and played at the No.3 and 2 spots for singles.
UDC will face off against Queens College tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM in the tournament semifinals.
