Polina Zelenstova Named ECC Player of the Week

Washington, DC- Polina Zelentsova was named the Week 7 ECC Player of the Week. Celia Bastin and Desire Parn also earned their spots on the Honor Roll. 

Zelenstova went 2-0 singles play at No. 2 and 1-1 in doubles play at No. 1 to split the week. In the Firebirds' loss to STAC, she picked up the only singles victory by defeating Elita Silins 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. In UDC's 4-3 victory over Queens, she teamed up with Desire Parn to defeat Maja Makal and Saga Berggren, 6-4, before going on to defeat the ECC Preseason Player of the Year Makal, 6-3, 6-2.

Bastin went 3-1 in a 1-1 week for the Firebirds. In UDC's loss to STAC, she teamed up with Claudia Bahamon Lopez to defeat Anaya Brons and Kateryna Kryuchkova, 6-3, at No. 2 position. In the Firebirds' 4-3 win over Queens, she went 2-0. At No. 2 doubles, she and Bahamon Lopez defeated Eva Rivoal and Apolline Lamy, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point. Bastin went on to clinch the winning point at the No. 4 position, battling out a three-set victory against Kyra Bergmann, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.

Parn went 2-2 at No. 1 doubles and singles to split the week, 1-1. She and Zelenstova were slightly edged out by Elita Silins and Courtney Fyvie (STAC) in a tiebreaker, falling 7-6(3). She then went on to engage in a three set affair with Anaya Brons, where she dropped the tiebreaker 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Parn went 2-0 against Queens, winning 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. She went on to defeat Eva Rivoal, 6-3, 6-2, in singles play.
