Zelentsova Goes Undefeated But Firebirds Fall to Panthers in Regional Match Up

Washington, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team battled against Adelphi University (AU) but came up short in a 6-1 defeat.

In doubles action, Polina Zelentsova and Desire Parn secured a thrilling victory at No. 1 doubles, edging out Liedbeck/Witkowska (AU) 7-6(5). However, the Panthers claimed victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, securing the doubles point.

The Firebirds' lone singles win came from Polina Zelentsova, who delivered an impressive performance at No. 2 singles, defeating Zuzanna Witkowska (AU) 6-4, 6-4. Several matches were closely contested, with Claudia Bahamon Lopez battling through three sets at No. 4 singles before falling 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-0. Célia Bastin also battled through three sets at No.3 before falling to her opponent 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.
